In Italy almost everything collectable in K-pop arrives by import. Local stock stays limited to the best-selling titles, and most buyers order online, from a European or a Korean seller. That puts two subjects front and centre: Italian VAT, one of the highest rates in Western Europe, and the fees a carrier adds when the tax was not settled upfront. A market where almost everything is imported
Italian physical retailers rarely stock more than releases by the best-known groups, and without the multiple versions. For a specific version, an older album or a Japanese release, you have to order online. Two sources dominate: sellers established in the Union, who deliver quickly and without formalities, and Korean retailers, who have the full catalogue and the original POB offers.
The practical consequence is simple: the listed price is almost never the final price when the shipment comes from Korea. What gets added is not transport, often included, but tax on entry. Comparing two offers therefore means knowing which one already collected the tax.

Italian VAT: 22%
The standard rate on a delivery to Italy is 22%. Under the EU distance-selling regime the destination sets the rate: a German seller shipping to Italy charges 22%, not 19%. The delivery address is therefore the only input that decides what you pay in tax.
This VAT is due on every parcel from a third country, with no minimum amount: the small-consignment exemption was removed across the Union on 1 July 2021. It is either collected by the seller at checkout, often through the IOSS scheme for consignments up to EUR 150, or collected by the carrier before the parcel is handed over.
Handling fees: the cost people forget
When VAT was not collected at checkout, the carrier advances the tax, claims it from the recipient and charges a customs clearance service on top. That amount is flat: it does not depend on the value of the parcel. On an order for a single album it can weigh more than the tax itself.
This is the main reason two offers at the same listed price do not end up at the same total. Before confirming, look for a statement that import taxes are included. Group orders: how they work
With little local stock, part of the Italian fandom uses group orders: one person collects orders from several buyers, places a single order with a Korean retailer, then forwards each share. The appeal is twofold: shared transport, and access to POB offers that require a minimum volume.
The mechanism has limits. Responsibility is private, not commercial: if a parcel is lost, damaged or abandoned, there is no remedy comparable to a professional purchase. A grouped parcel is also more likely to cross the EUR 150 threshold above which customs duties are added, which the organiser then passes on. Delivery: ten to twenty working days from Korea
To Italy, as to the rest of the Union, allow 10 to 20 working days between dispatch from Korea and delivery, customs clearance included. The clock starts at dispatch. On a pre-order, add the wait until the official release date, then preparation at the distributor, often a few days to two weeks on a large release.
Tracking changes carrier on arrival in the country and can look frozen for several days. Final delivery then depends on the local network; destinations away from major centres usually add a day or two.
Choosing a version when you import
When a parcel travels far, format matters as much as content. A photobook version is heavy and thick; a jewel case version or a card-sized version fits in a rigid envelope. Weight is shown on each version page on pocabase, next to the format, the EAN and the list of inclusions.
Also check the number of photocards and how they are drawn: a version advertising one card out of twelve does not let you pick a member. That detail changes the decision when you only buy one version, which is the common case when every order crosses a border.
